For 30 years the Housatonic River Walk has been cared for by community volunteers. This year our volunteer work begins with a boy scout work day.

This Arbor Day, we are delighted to announce that the Great Barrington Land Conservancy has a Tree Walk on the Riverfront Trail! 

The Riverfront Trail Tree Walk is an enduring way to educate the community about the many varieties of trees we have discovered on the trail, and about the importance of the tree diversity that we are preserving as a way to combat global warming. We intend to identify more than two dozen varieties and display their scientific name, family, origins, and more on metal identification signs.

2021 Lake Mansfield Spring and Summer Volunteer Workdays 

River Walk is open for 2021. Come enjoy the trail! The river is running high and spring is just beginning to emerge. Although our native trees are still leafless, the buds of red maples are swelling and the upper branches of willow trees are erupting into a vibrant yellow. It’s a great time to tune into early spring changes when walking with friends and family.
