This autumn is the Great Barrington Land Conservancy’s 10th Annual Run for the Hills Race. The race, which began as a fundraiser and promotion for the work of the Great Barrington Land Conservancy, has blossomed into a family event that encourages exercising and experiencing the outdoors. These races have been made possible by the generous support of our local businesses. Amidst this global crisis, our local businesses are hurting, and we can think of no better way to mark a decade of this event than by supporting those businesses which have supported GBLC! We will be including them in all of our race publicity and we ask that you patronize them as well.

This year’s race will take place virtually between Saturday, September 19th and Saturday, October 3rd. Over the course of these two weeks, runners and walkers can either follow our 5k/10k race routes (you can find the map on our website) or create your own route through town. We encourage you to stop by and say hello to any one of our 2019 business sponsors (a whopping 39!). Tag them on Facebook or Instagram and use the hashtag #RFTH2020— the best photo will receive a prize! Log your hours and times with Berkshire Running Center and those with the fastest times and longest distances will receive a prize! Prizes will be awarded to runners under age 18, adults, and for family groups. They will be given out on Sunday, October 4th at a socially-distanced ceremony (location TBD).

Individuals, teams, and families are encouraged to take advantage of this event as a way to spend time safely together outdoors and to reach personal health goals. Entry fee is $20 for individuals and $30 per family. Registration opens on August 1st. Want to support a participant or a team? Good news! You will be able to support them through our website. Stay tuned for more information.

Your participation helps your hometown land conservancy to promote land conservation, farm preservation and community trails. Visit our special places: the Housatonic River Walk, the Pfeiffer Arboretum at Long Pond Road, the Lake Mansfield Conservation Forest and Trails, and the Riverfront Trail (coming this fall).
