River Walk thanks Boy Scouts for Spring Clean Up!

For 30 years the Housatonic River Walk has been cared for by community volunteers. This year our volunteer work begins with a boy scout work day.

Traditionally, the River Walk Earth Day Cleanup is accomplished by community volunteers, but this year we are continuing to keep volunteer groups small to protect everyone's health during the pandemic. Leading his boy scout troop from Sheffield, Eli Smith stepped up to help River Walk accomplish the work needed for the spring trail opening. On a sunny, warm Saturday the scouts, their leaders, and River Walk team members collected litter, raked the trailbed, cleaned up parking lots, scuffle-hoed the trail downstream, capped rebar, spruced up the rain garden, and clipped knotweed. A grant total of 48 volunteer hours were contributed, and the River Walk is looking great!
